Playskool is a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. and is known for their educational toys and games for children and infants. This is largely due to its founder, Lucille King, who was a schoolteacher. She began the company in the 1920’s when she had an idea for toys made of wood while working at a lumber company. She started with wooden toys that could be used in the classroom to help develop coordination and stimulate the children’s minds.
By the 1930’s Playskool had a line of more than 40 different toys, including wooden beads, blocks, a pegboard, a pounding bench, and more. They were endorsed by child guidance experts and carried that reputation as being educationally enriching with them throughout the decades since then.
The early Playskool toys were thought to increase intelligence and testing scores. This was due to the hand-eye coordination that they encouraged. In 1943, the company purchased the J.L. Wright Company, which made Lincoln Logs. These building logs are still one of the most popular toys offered by Playskool.
If you are looking for toys that are well made and that are helpful educationally, you want to consider the Playskool line of toys. Whether you are purchasing for an infant or an older child, you will find a toy that you will be happy to give.
